Rebounding – My Favorite New Workout
When I was growing up we had a big trampoline in our backyard. Countless hours of my childhood were spent leaping to the sky and driving our family dog, Mac, crazy! I’m still not sure if he was being protective or just wanted to get in on the fun!
I recently rediscovered “rebounding” (AKA jumping on a trampoline) earlier this year and was immediately intrigued. It had brought me so much joy as a kid so why wouldn’t I adore it now? After reading about all the advantages I had to order one!
Benefits of rebounding
Of course as a kid I didn’t know, nor did I probably care, about all the good I was doing for my body while playing on the trampoline. The benefits of jumping on a trampoline were first discovered and recorded by NASA in 1980. Scientists were looking for a low impact, effective way for astronauts to get fit and regain bone density after being in space where they lose as much as 15% of their muscle and bone mass in just 14 days.

So what all does it do for you? The real question is, what doesn’t it do?! A little dramatic? Well, see for yourself.
- Boosts lymphatic system which improves immune system function
- Cardiovascular health
- Easy on the joints and actually boosts synovial fluid
- Helps with balance
- Improves digestion
- Increases skeletal bone mass and REVERSES osteoporosis
- Stress reliever
Where to buy a mini trampoline
I ordered my mini trampoline from Amazon. While there are a lot of different options, I went with one that didn’t have springs. Instead, it has elastic bands. I feel this has a quieter and smoother bounce. If you’re wanting a bit more stability, there are options of trampolines with bars attached.
How to start
I try to jump for 10-15 minutes, which is estimated to be the equivalent of a 30 minute jog. Most of the time I watch YouTube videos, but occasionally I’ll just turn on some fun music and go! Perhaps watching a few videos is a good way to get started. Here is one of my favorite beginner videos.
Have fun jumping your way to better health!
