Podcast Ep 22: Common Nutrient Deficiencies and How to Avoid Them

    • Podcast

The word deficiency comes up a lot from outside sources when someone goes plant-based or vegan. But I’m here to break it all down for you! Deficiencies are common among ALL Americans, meat eaters and vegans alike. On this episode we go over what those…

Eat your greens! Ever heard that one before?!😜 .
.
There are certainly plenty of good reasons to eat more greens! Kale, collards, chard, spinach, and mustard greens are some of the healthiest foods on the planet, providing lots of folate, vitamin K, vitamin C, antioxidants, vitamin A, and fiber. This makes them excellent at fighting cancer, strengthening bones, detoxification, lowering cholesterol, stabilizing blood sugar, reducing inflammation, and more. .
.
It’s recommended that we should eat up to 3 servings a day. That can often be a challenge. I like to put a serving or 2 in my smoothies and add them to all my dishes. Having pasta? Add some spinach! Making mashed potatoes? Add some wilted chard! Not only will you be getting all the wonderful nutrients, but it will look pretty too! You could also make a big salad! .
.
However, during the winter months salads often aren’t as appetizing. Try topping the salad with roasted veggies or baked tofu, which is what I did here with this kale/spinach Caesar. Swipe over for the dressing recipe! Add all ingredients to a blender and then adjust water to create the desired thickness. 💚💚💚

⭐️Oh, man is this a good episode! I sat down with one of my dearest friends, Olga, to chat all about her life, travels, and work with the subconscious mind! It's estimated that our subconscious controls 90% of our minds. These thought patterns are influenced and shaped through our upbringing, programming, and even ancestors. Transforming these beliefs can often be crucial in healing not just our minds, but our bodies as well. .
.
.
⭐️Olga Mejia has seen its impact first hand with her own life and those of her clients. Olga's lived and traveled all over, picking up and learning different alternative healing modalities along the way, studying Traditional Chinese Medicine, acupressure, naturopathy, reiki, and subconscious work. She's had some incredible life experiences that helped shape who she's become today, several relating to death and dying, including a near death experience. We get into all this as well as her life in Manhattan during the 1980’s aids epidemic, her discovery of kundalini yoga, pranayama yoga, past life regression, CBD, veganism, lucid dreaming, and malas. We also talk about the subconscious mind, how to change our belief systems, and working out all the negative in our subconscious through different techniques including Quantum Healing Hypnosis Technique. .

🎄It’s holiday party season! And that means time to make the most delicious and beautiful cheese boards around, with plant cheeses of course! .
.
.
🧀Brands I love and recommend are @miyokoscreamery and @kitehillfoods . You can also be adventurous and make your own. The book This Cheese is Nuts has some of the best recipes. .
.
.
🍞For crackers I choose @simplemills and @marysgonecrackers . Some lovely additions to the board are hummus, nuts, figs, olives, pomegranate seeds, fruit, chopped veggies (carrots, cucumbers, celery). . .
.
💚If you wanted to add in some compassionate faux meat, slice up some @the_tofurky_company (my hubby likes the Italian one) and sauté with coco oil. .
.
What do you like to put on your “cheese” board!?

Fall means apple season and apple season (to me) means baked cinnamon apples!
.
.
I’ve loved this dish ever since I was a kid. My recipe contains no added sugar because for real y’all, that is not necessary! Apples are so sweet on their own! This recipe is so simple and easy! It can eaten as a side or even as a dessert à la mode with some nice cream! Recipe on website now! .
. When picking apples, make sure to choose organic. Apples are in the “dirty dozen” group, meaning they’re a crop in which a lot of pesticides are used. These chemicals are sprayed directly on the fruit which have a very thin skin and most of us eat that skin. They’ve been linked to cancer as well as breaking down the gut lining barrier in our intestines. When this lining (which is the thickness of 1/2 a strand of hair) is damaged we can get what some call “leaky gut” or intestinal permeability. When this occurs bacteria and toxins can leak out into our blood stream causing a plethora of different symptoms and issues. .
.
