Why a Healthy Diet Doesn’t Stop at our Plates

When people think of a healthy diet they usually envision a plate filled with vibrant plants, but living healthfully is so much more. This is why a healthy diet doesn’t stop at our plates. What we consume through our eyes, ears, and minds also plays a vital role in our overall wellness! This means we all need to be highly aware and conscious of what we’re watching, listening to, reading, and even who we hang out with because it all plays a part in our health!

I recently watched about 1.5 episodes of a show that had an alarming amount of violence. While I wanted to give the show a chance, eventually there came a point where I had to give up and switch it off.

The issue wasn’t just the violence, but the amount and nature of the violence that caused me distress. Literally 20 people got shot point blank in the head within 30 minutes…so graphic! What the heck? Here’s the deal, while our conscious minds know that it is just a show therefore not real, our subconscious minds DO NOT!

The average American watches over 34 hours of television a week. It’s sadly what we spend most of our free time doing. And while there are many reasons for our negative mindsets these days, too much television is definitely up there. Our society has become desensitized to murder, violence, lying, harsh language, manipulation, sex, and product pushing. Many barely flinch.

Aside from all those violent shows, all television is ultimately MIND MANIPULATION whether one wants to admit it or not. 6 giant media corporations control 90% of everything we watch, read, and listen to, making them the gate keepers for what we see and believe. It’s about keeping viewers and increasing ratings. You know how it goes, “Oh just buy this product and your life will change”, “Take this drug and you’ll be happy like the people on the screen”, “Buy into this fear so we can control your every move”, and so on and so forth.

In 1969, Herbert Krugman conducted experiments [1] about human behaviors and television:

“Krugman monitored a person through many trials and found that in less than one minute of television viewing, the person’s brainwaves switched from Beta wavesbrainwaves associated with active, logical thought — to primarily Alpha waves. When the subject stopped watching television and began reading a magazine, the brainwaves reverted to Beta waves.”

After watching less than one minute of television our normal ‘beta brainwave state‘ turns into ‘alpha brainwave state‘. The alpha brainwave state makes up more susceptible and suggestible to whatever we’re being shown. This hypnotic like trance lowers our mental state, making us less critical, less able to discern truth from falsity, reality from unreality. Of course this can applied to other forms of technology as well, our cell phones, Youtube, Instagram, you name it, it’s influencing us all.

We’ve had more than an entire year of people being glued to their tv sets, for an answer, for entertainment, for guidance, for the “authorities” to tell them what they should do and shouldn’t do, it’s no wonder the world is the way it is today.

My advice is stop the madness. Open a book. Play a game. Go outside. Do anything else, but let us ALL STOP giving these people our money, time, and most importantly our MINDS!
